Future / Strategic Plans

The Lawton Parks & Recreation ten-Year Strategic Plan is a foundational document for an on-going effort to provide a high quality parks & recreation system. The basic intention of this study is to evaluate the scope of parks and recreation services now and in the future and to suggest methods to obtain these services.

It is important, as we begin planning for the future recreation needs of the community, to have a good understanding of the unique characteristics of the community we serve. This understanding is critical as we begin comparing our community's parks and recreation facilities to national standards and making projections for our future needs.

Conclusions:
1. The central corridor or Planning Analysis Area #2 has the largest percent (46%) of the City's population. The western corridor or Planning Analysis Area #1 has 44% of the population and the eastern corridor or Planning Analysis Area #3 has 10%.

2. It would appear that the number of current neighborhood parks in all three Planning Analysis Areas are adequate for the present population.

3. The Department is concerned that there may be an insufficient number of parks in Planning Analysis Area #3 if projected growth trends materialize.

4. It would appear that the population of Planning Analysis Area #1 would warrant the immediate addition of a community park.
