(Lawton, OK) The 2013 International Festival Committee is pleased to announce a design contest for the official 2013 International Festival publicity poster.  The winning design will be used on promotional materials advertising the festival.  This competition is open to students K-12 and adults of all skill levels.  Submissions should be an artistic response illustrating the cultural richness of our community celebrated by the International Festival.

The competition is open to all media that results in two-dimensional entries.  All work must be original.  Non-winning entries from previous years may also be submitted if adhering to the 2013 guidelines.  Multiple submissions are accepted.  All submissions should be 22 x 28.  Artwork may be matted white and shrink wrapped OR 18 x 24 art paper may be used and attached to 22 x 28 white poster board.  The artist name, full mailing address and phone number as well as school and current grade level (if applicable) MUST be clearly written on the back of the artwork and backing, but should not show through.

Deadline for entries is Friday, May 10, 2013.  Entries must be received by 5:00 p.m. at the Arts & Humanities Office, 801 NW Ferris Ave. (west side of McMahon Auditorium).  Artwork should be delivered flat, not folded or rolled.  Judging will take place on June 4, 2013.  Artwork will be viewed and voted on by members of the International Festival Committee.  They will consider overall impact of design, artistic merit, creativity, and appropriateness of the subject matter as it relates to the International Festival.  Artwork will also be judged by its ability to be transferred to screen print without distorting the original design.

Student division (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) winners as well as adult division winners will receive a $50 award for first place, $30 award for second place, and $20 award for third place.  The competition winner will be chosen from division award winners.  In addition, the competition winner receives a $200 stipend, one festival T-shirt, and one official 2013 International Festival poster.

Written notification and the monetary award will be mailed to all winners in June.  Entries will be on display at the McMahon Memorial Auditorium from June through September.  Winners from each division will be recognized on Sunday afternoon at the festival, scheduled for September 27th – 29th at Elmer Thomas Park.  All reasonable care will be taken in handling submissions.  The winning design artwork becomes the exclusive property of the Lawton Arts & Humanities Council and will not be returned.  Artist will receive credit when design is used for festival purposes.  All submissions, except the winning design, may be picked up at the office starting Monday, October 7, 2013.  Artwork not claimed by Friday, October 25th will be disposed of at the discretion of the festival committee.
