PAST 2011-2012

COSPONSORSHIP GRANT AWARDEES

July, 2012, the City of Lawton received the Oklahoma Arts Council’s Local Government Challenge Grant. The National Endowment for the Arts is also a sponsor of this program. This “community chest” funds the Co-Sponsorship Grant Program, which is managed by the Lawton Arts & Humanities Council.

Through federal as well as state appropriations with grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Oklahoma Arts Council funds arts events and arts education programs throughout the state. Projects funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council generate matching funds; create public/private partnerships that in turn impact Oklahoma’s economy throughout the state’s rural and urban communities. This was evidenced in the 2010 study that revealed that the Nonprofit Arts & Cultural industry generated $314.8 million in local economic activity in Oklahoma.

The FY2011-2012 Co-Sponsorship Grant recipients were:

Barkingwater Productions, Inc. “Lawton Fort Sill Cowboy Story”

Blue Moon Productions, Inc. “The Old Cookie Shop”

Friends of the Library, “Golden Girls & Guys 8th Anniversary Celebration”

Institute of the Great Plains, “Proto-Judy (Mammoth) Exhibit Revisions Following
Carbon Dating”

Lawton Community Theatre, “The Duck Variations”

Lawton Heritage Association, “Living History Through Lawton’s Mattie Beal Home IV”

Lawton Philharmonic Society, “Commissioned Symphonic Composition on Native American Themes for Concert Performance”

Lawton Pro Musica, “Holiday Concert”
