Provides a variety of complex supervisory, administrative and technical work in the operation of the Water Treatment Plant including the responsibility for regulatory compliance and maintenance of required plant records. The superintendent is responsible for subordinate employees which includes laboratory, maintenance and operations personnel.
Supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources; plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments; trains, motivates and evaluates staff. Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports, presentations and recommendations; coordinates division activities with other entities. Communicates official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public. Assures assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors expenditures in assigned areas; prepares annual divisional budget requests; Inspects and supervises the operation and repair of the water treatment plants and all areas of responsibility to insure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly. Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, techniques, tools and procedures used in plant operation and treatment. Knowledge of water reservoir management practices. Ability to interpret specific chemical and biological analyses; ability to organize and supervise activities of various crews; ability to communicate effectively; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and safety precautions necessary for the safe conduct of work and plant operation. Skill in the operation of standard office tools and equipment including, SCADA systems and instrumentation common to state-of-the-art utilities.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in environmental science, public health, civil engineering, public administration or closely related field. Minimum five (5) years experience related to the administration and operation of water treatment or wastewater treatment systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience with four additional years experience substituting for the educational requirement. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Possession of or the ability to obtain a Class “A” Water Operator’s Certification as issued by the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality within six months of hire.
