Position Purpose
Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks and operates a variety of light and medium-duty equipment and trucks utilized in the construction, maintenance and repair of the water distribution system.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Regularly performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to appropriate individual. Performs labor involved in construction and maintenance projects to water lines, fire hydrants, valves and meters to include pavement-cutting, ditch digging, laying and connecting of pipe and backfilling. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, cleans and flushes water lines, gates, fire hydrants and fittings; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains. Assists in tapping water mains. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights. Assists with complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water. Assists with proper traffic diversion in and around job sites. Skill in the operation of dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, backhoe, trackhoe, front-end loader, hydrohammer, trencher, saws, pumps, generators, compressors; common hand tools and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, and telephone. Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Two years prior experience related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid driver's license. Possession of or the ability to obtain a Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality Class “D” Water Certification within one year of date of employment.
