The Transportation Planner position assists with carrying out the work products of the Unified Planning Work Program for the Lawton Metropolitan Planning Organization.
Responsibilities include: the collection and analysis of socio-economic data; preparation of transportation planning graphics, mapping, and GIS using ArcView and other programs; development and maintenance of existing ArcMap GIS databases; preparing grant applications; preparing planning documents, memos, reports, presentations, and other documentation for state and federal transportation funding; and responding to questions about local planning, census, transportation, transit, and air quality issues. Knowledge and understanding of the transportation planning process; database management, and statistical methods. Knowledge of general planning methods, techniques, programs, and processes. Knowledge of grant management techniques related to federal and state grants. Ability to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a team. Ability to analyze, interpret, and understand policies and procedures. Skill in use of personal computer, MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access), ArcView/ArcGIS, printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, and motor vehicle. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Skill in oral and written communications with supervisors, co-workers, government officials, and the general public.
Requirement-Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in transportation planning, land use planning, urban planning or a closely related field and two (2) years experience in planning or closely related field; at least one of which was related to transportation planning, geographic information systems, or any equivalent combination of education and experience with additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience.
