Position Purpose
Under supervision, performs planning and programming activities in support of the MPO process. Work requires contact with departmental managers, local government officials, and the general public.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Knowledge and understanding of the four- step transportation planning process; database management and statistical methods. Ability to work independently, under supervision and as part of a team. Knowledge of general planning methods, techniques, programs and processes. Knowledge of grant management techniques related to management of federal and state grants. Ability to analyze, interpret and understand policies and procedures. Skill in use of personal computer, networking, spreadsheet/database software. ESRI GIS or transportation modeling software, motor vehicle; calculator; phone; copy and fax machine; blue line and tape measures. Skill in oral and written communications with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public. Responsible for transportation planning graphics, mapping and GIS using ArcView and other programs. Collects and analyzes socio-economic data. Development and maintenance of existing ARCMAP GIS databases. Assists in completing planning documents, memos, reports, grants and presentations. Responds to questions about local planning, census, transportation, zoning, transit and air quality issues. Attends required classes. Assists in coordination of travel demand forecasting, preparation of proposals, grant applications and other documentation for federal transportation funding.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture or a closely related field, and two (2) years-experience in planning or closely related field; at least one of which was related to transportation planning, geographic information systems; or any equivalent combination of education and experience with additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience. Must submit copy of college transcript(s). Valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
