Beginning Salary: $13.76/hour 30 hours per week
POSITION INVOLVES SHIFT WORK

Status: PART-TIME *Typing and spelling tests required
Position Purpose
Performs a full range of call taking and dispatching responsibilities; operates complex communications equipment including radio console, multi-line telephone system, and computer terminals to access information to dispatch police, fire and other city assets.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Knowledge of names and locations of city streets. Ability to speak clearly and concisely in a well modulated voice and use clear diction. Ability to think and to act quickly, calmly and accurately in emergency situations. Ability to communicate with the deaf by telephone communications. Knowledge of FCC Rules and Regulations governing operation of radio telephone transmitting and receiving equipment. Ability to understand and follow moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to pass State Certification Teletype course. Answers emergency and other calls by telephone. Monitors various radio frequencies, the 911 phone system and various alarm systems. Broadcasts all police communications; dispatches police units. Coordinates with other governmental agencies in emergency situations.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from a high school, vocational school or GED equivalent. Must have valid typing and spelling scores taken in the Human Resources office and be less than one (1) year old. Tests may be taken on a walk in basis between the hours of 9:00 to 11:15 am and 1:00 pm to 4:15 pm. A picture ID is required. It is the applicant’s responsibility to submit test scores. Tests must be on file prior to closing date of position. Experience affording a familiarity with the operation of simple radio transmitting equipment and police work. Valid OK driver’s license.
