Performs a variety of routine and complex technical work in building inspection to insure that the International Plumbing code and other related codes and standards are met.
Enforces International Plumbing Code, International Residential Code and International Fuel Gas Codes. Enforces proper fire protection systems and irrigation systems. Performs on site inspections of plumbing systems, fuel gas inspections and all plumbing fixtures. Performs water tests on all completed plumbing. Maintains records and reports of inspection activities. Issues certificates, permits, stop work orders, correction notices and citations as appropriate. Assists in researching problems and complaints. Interprets codes in the field; authorizes acceptable alternate methods of code compliance within limits of authority. Investigates code compliance complaints. Recommends the initiation of abatement procedures when appropriate. Attends meetings to explain inspection standards and procedures. Assists the Building Development Board of Appeals as needed. Performs the duties of a plumbing plans examiner, building inspector, electrical inspector, or mechanical inspector as needed and qualified. Knowledge of International Plumbing Codes or related general construction codes; thorough knowledge of plumbing and fire protection systems, and some knowledge of electrical work, carpentry work, cement work, or mechanical systems. Skill in the use and operation of modern office equipment, motor vehicle, various hand tools and testing equipment for water tests. Ability to establish effective working relationships. Ability to read and understand complicated plumbing plans and blueprints; ability to communicate effectively.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Possession of a valid driver’s license. Graduation from a standard high school or GED equivalency, with at least five (5) years experience as a plumbing journeyman. Two (2) of the years of experience may be substituted by two (2) years education at an accredited technical center in the field of plumbing. International Code Council (ICC) residential and commercial plumbing inspector certification and state of Oklahoma unlimited plumbing inspector’s license within twenty-four (24) months of employment.
