Position Purpose
This position is in the Park Maintenance Division and does field and office work in performing inspections and inventories of play equipment and park grounds to help assure park safety.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Makes visual and physical inspections of parks, park equipment and park playgrounds for needed repair or maintenance. Repairs equipment. Keeps records on repairs. Assists in installing playground units and soft footing material. Sprays chemicals for the control of weeds and pests. Reports or repairs unsafe conditions in parks or play areas. Assists in putting up and breaking down equipment for special programs. Opens and closes facilities as needed. At times supervises trustees. Performs routing maintenance on service vehicle and reports any mechanical problems. Operates heavy-duty trucks, tractors, backhoe, and skill in the operation of the following: pickup truck, lawn and landscaping equipment, tractors, mowers, chain saw, edgers, weed trimmers, sprinklers, irrigation systems, two way radio. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in ground maintenance; of first aid and applicable safety precautions; of tree pruning and maintenance techniques. Knowledge of CPSC playground safety guidelines and ability to perform safety inspections. Knowledge of street locations. Ability to perform cement-finishing on items such as foundations, sidewalks, bumper blocks and the knowledge of finishing tools. Ability to operate independently and to complete activities according to work schedules. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor. Ability to communicate effectively; to understand, follow and transmit instructions; to establish effective working relationships.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent and three years experience in ground maintenance work or any combination of relevant education and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license and possess or ability to obtain the proper State agricultural pesticide applicator’s license within six months of employment.
