Location:Parks and Recreation Department / Park Maintenance Division
Beginning Salary: $1,996.80 bi-weekly
Closing Date: 5 pm December 20, 2012
Performs a variety of administrative, supervisory and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of parks, open spaces, cemetery, athletic fields, lakes, buildings, and right-of-ways.
Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long range plans; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates division activities. Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals; reviews progress and directs changes as needed. Provides advice to supervisors, makes presentations to boards, commissions, civic groups and the public. Performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures; prepares annual division budget. Provides and directs work procedures and work schedules; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Develops and maintains a park and open space maintenance management system. Inspects parks and open space services provided by contractors or vendors for compliance with performance standards. Responds to public inquiries, complaints, and requests. Participates as an active member of City and Mayor appointed committees. Skill in the operation of the following: computer including word processing, spreadsheet, database and email software; two way radio, cellular phone; fax machine; automobile, tractors, mowers, and building trade equipment. Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in park and grounds maintenance; knowledge of first aid and applicable safety standards. Ability to work independently; to communicate orally and in writing; establish effective working relationships with others.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course study in park management, athletic field maintenance, and public administration and at least five years experience in repair and maintenance work, at least two of which have been with a park system; or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain one prior to employment.
Please list any knowledge or experience in the following areas: HVAC and general building, foliage/lawn care, electrical, plumbing, repair and maintenance of park equipment, sprinkler systems, ball field maintenance, lake maintenance, cemetery maintenance, ADA compliance, rules and regulations concerning public safety, knowledge of grants and use of heavy equipment, supervisory experience.
