Position Purpose
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of grounds, parks, open spaces and recreational facilities.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Mows and maintains park and open space areas, right-a-ways, medians, and city buildings; maintains, repairs, installs sprinkler systems. Seeds, fertilizes, top dresses, conditions soil, waters, pest and weed controls of City areas. Plants and maintains a wide variety of vegetation in various locations. Does litter control as needed and all other duties as assigned. Performs routine maintenance of equipment to include mowers, tractors, weedeaters, and other power equipment. Assists in setting up for various events. Skill in the operation of the following: pickup, lawn and landscaping equipment, tractors, mowers, chain saws, edgers, weed trimmers; sprinklers; irrigation systems; two way radio; and miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance. Knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in ground maintenance; of first aid and applicable safety precautions; of proper tree pruning and maintenance techniques. Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time; perform strenuous physical labor; to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow and transmit instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and three years experience in ground maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Possession of a valid Oklahoma driver's license. Possession of the proper State of Oklahoma agricultural pesticide applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one within six months of employment and possession of or the ability to obtain a State pesticide tech license within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
