Beginning Salary: $824.00 bi-weekly

The Kennel Assistant performs technical work as part of the kennel operations of the Animal Welfare Division.
Cleans, sanitizes kennel following specified procedures. Set up pens and provides general daily care for all kennel animals. Performs the necessary preventative maintenance practices on equipment and tools utilized in kennel operations. Skill in the safe use of all related equipment. Ability and willingness to conduct euthanasia procedures according to established guidelines. Keeps supervisor informed of daily activities and advises of potential problems. Polices and performs grounds maintenance. Willingness to assist in humane euthanasia procedures. Knowledge of acceptable husbandry techniques; small animal/livestock behavior and specialized care of a wide variety of reptiles. Ability to work with animals without fear. Willingness to work with sick and/or vicious animals. Ability to communicate with a variety of people to include disagreeable and difficult people while remaining calm and in control of the situation and surroundings.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Possession of a valid driver’s license. High school diploma or GED equivalency. Rabies pre-exposure and hepatitis B vaccines. Must successfully complete a specified, on-the-job course of training for Animal Care Assistant as outlined by the Animal Welfare Division. At least (1) year experience as a kennel worker or similar position working with animals.
