Beginning Salary: $66,601.60 to $86,756.80 annually DOQ

To assist with the supervision of the Fire Department to include planning and coordination administrative activities of the Fire Department; to coordinate assigned activities with other city departments, outside agencies and the general public; and to provide highly responsible staff assistance to the Fire Chief.
Assists in establishing department policies, procedures and practices; in planning, prioritizing, assigning, coordinating, supervising and reviewing the work of fire employees. Participates in development /implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the Fire Department; Participates in training, motivating and evaluating performance of personnel. Provides/coordinates staff training; implements/ recommend discipline as appropriate. Directs, coordinates and reviews the work plan and activities for the Fire Department. Prepares monthly report on progress and activities as directed by the Fire Chief. Supervises, plans and coordinates all training activities for department personnel; supervises fire code compliance and fire reaction/prevention activities. Primarily responsible for management of medical response activities of Fire Department. Serve as administrative resource for the supervision, planning, and directing of hazardous material response efforts. Serve as Health and Safety Officer; assists with the coordination between Fire Chief and firefighter’s union. Supervises and participates in a variety of technical department activities, reports and records. Participates in development and administration of department budget. Monitors and approves expenditures for assigned areas. Serves as Fire Chief in the absence of Fire Chief. Schedules equipment repairs; writes equipment specifications. Prepares payroll. Skill in the operation of: emergency medical aid unit, fire apparatus, fire pumps, hoses and other standard firefighting equipment; ladders; first aid equipment; radio; pager; personal computer, spreadsheet, database and special fire administrative software; phone; fax machine. Knowledge of modern fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical services principles, procedures, techniques and equipment; of first aid and resuscitation techniques and application as demonstrated through state EMT certification; considerable knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, departmental standard operating procedures and regulations. Ability to train and supervise subordinate personnel; to perform work requiring good physical condition; to communicate effectively: to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and decision making; to effectively give and receive instructions; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor's degree in fire science, public administration or a closely related field and 5 years of experience in fire or emergency medical work, 2 years of which must have been the equivalent of a company officer or higher, and completion of the Fire Basic Training Academy or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
