Position Purpose
To assist in the supervision of daily operations of the Communications Department; performs a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information; keeping official records.
Job Duties/Knowledge
Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow. Examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures. Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency. Corrects or oversees the correction of errors; takes and investigates complaints. Issues written and oral instructions. Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances. Supervises the training of new employees. Prepares reports on employee performance. Monitors telephones and radios in the communications center, answers incoming calls; dispatches all required personnel. Maintains communications log. Ability to perform all aspects of the telecommunicator job. Inputs data. Composes correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material. Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; of modern office practices and procedures; some knowledge of accounting principles and experience. Three years experience in the operation of: communications switchboard, including computer-aided systems; personal computer including word processing software; copy machine; fax machine; radio. Ability to effectively meet and deal with the public; ability to communicate verbally and in writing; ability to handle stressful situations; ability to coordinate activities with other communications supervisors; ability to organize activities in a stressful situation.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent with specialized coursework in general office practices such as typing, filing, accounting or bookkeeping and three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of related education and experience. Three years experience in the operation of the following: communications switchboard, including computer-aided systems; personal computer including word processing software; copy machine; fax machine; radio. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
