Performs journey-level work in the maintenance, design, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, houses and other City facilities. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and concrete/masonry.
Maintains City facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, welding, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work. When required, works alone. Operates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, welders, plumbing snakes, routers, grinders and electric and gas generators. Reads and interprets sketches, diagrams, drawings and blueprints and assists in coordinating facility maintenance services activities. Knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair work; of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work. Ability to calculate cost, labor and material estimates by performing arithmetic functions. Ability to communicate with others. Ability to observe or monitor objects to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards. Ability to use graphic instructions; to comprehend and make inferences from written material; to review or check the work products of others for conformance to standards. Ability to work safely. Ability to establish priorities for workload based on such factors as need for immediate action, work objectives, work schedule, and knowledge of future needs; ability to perform multiple types of welding.
Requirements-Education & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and three years of skilled journey level experience in maintenance and construction with a high level of proficiency and skill in at least one other building trade; other equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted.. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
