Performs journey-level work in the maintenance, design, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, houses and other City facilities. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough and finished carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and concrete/masonry.
Performs a variety of skilled carpentry, minor electrical, painting, plastering, welding, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work. Makes decisions needed to accomplish tasks. Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, welders, plumbing snakes, routers, grinders and electric and gas generators volt and amp meters, testers, circuit testers, EMT cutters, benders, table saw, miter saw, nail guns, sanders, drills, power paint sprayer, bedding and sheet rock tools, finish and painting equipment, welder, & metal cutting tools. Ability to calculate cost estimates of labor and materials. Reads and interprets sketches, diagrams, drawings and blueprints and assists in coordinating facility maintenance services activities with other City department, divisions and outside agencies. Performs general janitorial duties as needed such as sweeping, cleaning restrooms, mopping, cleaning windows etc. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; perform mathematical computations and composes/edit reports. Ability to observe or monitor objects to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Possession of a valid driver’s license. Three (3) years of skilled journey level experience in maintenance and construction with a high level of proficiency and skill in at least one other building trade. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
