This is a skilled mechanical work of the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of heavy motorized equipment and related motive equipment.
Performs needed repairs and completes approved work, insuring that clearances, fittings, adjustments, settings, replacements and repairs are correctly and precisely made in accordance with existing technical manuals, specifications or instructions. Determines causes of mechanical operating problems and makes repairs to heavy mobile equipment and vehicles. Repairs, overhauls or rebuilds engines and does other major repair of systems such as diesel, gasoline and other types of internal combustion engines, automatic and standard transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems and hydraulic utility systems and controls. Repairs and maintains heavy equipment and heavy special purpose vehicles trucks which have hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical utility systems, controls and features not commonly found on motive and ordinary transport trucks and busses. Tests completed work to assure proper performance. Makes changes or modifications in accordance with specifications and guidelines.. Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the motive trade as applied to the repair and maintenance of heavy construction equipment. Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams, specifications, schematics and similar guides to make repairs and modifications. Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; to establish effective working relationships with others; ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying conditions; Ability to repair/maintain motorized vehicles and equipment, including street sweeper, backhoe, front-end loader, trackhoe, fusion equipment, pipe bursting equipment, boring equipment, motor grader, bulldozer, riding paint gun, tar pot, grade-all, pole-cat, thereto-plastic machine, transport truck, oil tanker, oil distributor truck, tractor with brush-hog, street roller, tamper, plate compactor, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools and mobile radio.
Requirement-Education & Experience
Graduation from an accredited high school, vocational school or possess a G.E.D. Five (5) years experience in maintaining and repairing motive equipment including work on heavy construction equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of equipment repair/maintenance principles; working knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used on vehicles and light and heavy equipment. Possession of valid driver’s license at date of hire and an Oklahoma Class “B” CDL within 6 months of date of hire.
