Employee Training Course Calendar

The following training courses are being offered to City employeesduringthe month ofMarch. Please forward or post in your departments. All courses listed will meet the quarterly requirements for High and Low risk employees.
March 02– GETTING ALONG WITH CUSTOMERS AND CO-WORKERS. Open to all City employees, but required for all newly hired employees. The Safety and Risk Manager will identify and schedule the new employees. The focus of this seminar is the understanding of the personality and situational factors that lead to conflict in the workplace and techniques for resolving, mitigating or withdrawing from those conflicts in a way that preserves the relationship with a co-worker or customer without resorting to name calling, shouting, pouting, or giving in to others. This is a 2-hour class that begins at 8:30 a.m. Class will be held at the GPTC, Building 600, Room 656.
March 12 – DEFENSIVE DRIVING. Defensive driving training is required for all City of Lawton employees who operate City-owned vehicles in accordance with Administrative Policy 3-12. Such employees must receive the training at the time of hire, after involvement in preventable collisions, and no less than every five years. The Safety and Risk Manager will identify and schedule these employees. Other employees may voluntarily attend. Refresher course for the experienced drivers to improve or reinforce techniques and skill for defensive driving and collision avoidance.This is an 8 -hour course that begins at 8:00 a.m. Class will be held at the GPTC, Building 600, Room 617.
March 15–HARASSMENT FREE WORKPLACE TRAINING. Open to all City employees, but required for all newly hired employees. The Safety and Risk Manager will identify and schedule the new employees. It is illegal to harass or discriminate against employees, applicants, or other individuals based on their membership in a protected class of people. Various laws forbid harassment or discrimination based on race, religion, age, gender, handicap, pregnancy, sexual preference, etc. This course will introduce these various laws, what is and what would not be considered harassment, costs of harassment lawsuits, and what to do if you are the victim of harassment or discrimination. It will highlight the City’s policy of equal opportunity for all employees and applicants. This is a 2-hour course that begins at 1:00 p.m. Class will be held at the GPTC, Building 600, Room 618.
March 28, 29,and 30 – BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS Required for all employees who are at risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens as referenced in the City’s Exposure Control Plan. Also open to (and encouraged for) all other employees. Provides information on diseases caused by blood borne pathogens, describes universal precautions to prevent exposures, use of personal protective equipment and clothing necessary to prevent contracting HIV or HBV viruses or other diseases caused by contaminated blood or other body fluids, proper decontamination procedures, prevention including Hepatitis B vaccinations and medical treatment for exposure. This is a 2-hour course that will be available three times a day. Classes will begin at 7:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. Class will be held at the GPTC, Building 600, Room & 656.
