Under supervision the Planner I position performs planning and programming activities in support of the City of Lawton and the Lawton Metropolitan Planning Organization. Work requires contact with departmental managers. Local government officials, and the general public.
Responsibilities include: the collection and analysis of socio-economic data; preparation of planning graphics, mapping, and GIS using ArcView and other programs; development and maintenance of existing ArcMap GIS databases; preparing grant applications; preparing planning documents, memos, reports, presentations, and other documentation for state and federal transportation funding; and responding to questions about local planning, census, transportation, transit, and air quality issues. Knowledge of general urban and transportation planning methods, techniques, programs, and processes. Knowledge of grant management techniques related to federal and state grants. Ability to work independently, under supervision, and as part of a team. Ability to analyze, interpret, and understand policies and procedures. Skill in use of personal computer, MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, Access), ArcView/ArcGIS, printer, scanner, copier, fax machine, and motor vehicle. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Skill in oral and written communications with supervisors, co-workers, government officials, and the general public.
Requirement-Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture or a closely related field and two (2) years experience in planning or GIS; or any equivalent combination of education and experience with additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience.
