Position Purpose

Employee performs a variety of semi-skilled and technical tasks in the maintenance and operation of the grounds, parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities.

Job Duties/Knowledge

Operates a variety of equipment such as dump trucks, tractors, backhoe, front end loader, welders cutting torches, and motorized chemical sprayer in the installing, maintenance, repair and replacement of park and recreational equipment.  Performs maintenance on mowers.  Installs/repairs/ replaces fencing.  Lays sod, plants/trims trees and shrubs.  Installs all type of park accessories.  Installs all types of play materials such as fibar, washed rock, pea gravel and installs concrete walls and French drains around play units.  Assists in setting up and taking down equipment; opens and closes facilities as needed.  Identifies reports or removes unsafe conditions on City property. Keeps record of maintenance work performed and reports needed repairs that are beyond scope of the employee’s duties.  Assists in training new/ workers and occasionally supervises trustees. Skill in the operation of: pickup truck, tractors, mowers, chain saws, edgers, weed trimmers, sprinklers, irrigation systems, two way radios, welder and cutting torch and miscellaneous hand and power tools for turf maintenance.  Knowledge of proper and safe techniques, materials and supplies used in ground maintenance functions. Ability to read and understand blue prints and plans in the installation of playground units.  Knowledge of CPSC playground safety guidelines and the ability to apply to safety inspections.  Working knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.  Ability to perform cement-finishing on various park items. Ability to operate independently and to complete daily activities according to schedules. Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor. Ability to communicate effectively; Ability to understand, follow and transmit instructions and to establish effective working relationships with others. Responds to citizen complaints with tact and diplomacy.

Requirement-Education & Experience

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and three years experience in ground maintenance work or any combination of relevant education and experience. Possession of a valid driver’s license and possession of or the ability to obtain an Oklahoma Class “B” CDL within 6 months of date of hire.   Due to Oklahoma State licensing requirements for this position, an original or certified true copy of your birth certificate or passport must be made available before a conditional offer for a job can be made.
