Introduction

General Overview
The Reference Department assists patrons in finding information and materials in the library. We also answer telephone and online requests for information.
    

Resources and Information
The Lawton Public Library is a limited depository (approximately 12%) for Federal Government Documents. We are also a full depository for Oklahoma State Documents. The Reference Department is in charge of maintaining this collection.


Online Reference
Internet Reference is a service of the Lawton Public Library Reference Staff. We will attempt to answer questions received within the same guidelines that we apply to questions received from walk-in and telephone patrons. Priority will be given to residents of our primary service area.

We will respond as soon as possible, usually within one working day, to update you on our progress. If your browser does not support forms, you may email your question to the Lawton Public Library reference department.

Database Searches
Choose from our free full-text databases such as HeritageQuest, EBSCO, WorldCat, Facts On File, and Gale Virtual Reference Library to search through hundreds of books, encyclopedias, periodicals and magazines, and family history resources online for free. Some of these databases will require contacting the library in order to obtain login information.

Welcome to HeritageQuest Online™ – your library's resource for census data, family records, and local histories. This collection assembles every extant U.S. federal census, family genealogies, local histories, tax lists, city directories, land and probate records, birth, marriage and death records, genealogical and local history serials, and more.  An ongoing project (new content is added regularly), HeritageQuest Online will grow to encompass the Periodical Source Index (PERSI), Freedman’s Bank Records, Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Index, and additional materials.

1.      Access remotely via referring URL
2.      Search the entire database of census records by single or multiple elements
3.      Search the bibliographic citations and full text of all monographs and serials
4.      Browse online the digital image of every page
5.      Jump directly to your keyword hit in a book or article
6.      Download the digital images in PDF and TIFF formats for more extensive viewing and printing
7.      Take notes and save them in a notebook, where you can email, print or download citations and notes at the end of your session

EBSCO

Allows you to search many databases with information from hundreds of sources. To log onto EBSCO databases, click on the above button and log in at the site using the authorization code. To obtain the code, please come into the library and check in with the reference desk.


Search the Lawton Constitution from today back to 1985 or any of 1,694 other full text news sources across the United States including the Oklahoman, the New York Times, USA Today and the Dallas Morning News.
