International Festival in Lawton - New Home, Dates and Call for Participants
The dates for the 2008 International Festival in Lawton, Oklahoma are September 26, 27, & 28 (Friday from 5-10 pm, Saturday from 11 am-10 pm, & Sunday from 12-5 pm). This will be the festival’s 29th year, and it continues to celebrate and highlight our area’s diversity and many cultures.
The festival is a project of the Lawton Arts and Humanities Council’s International Festival Committee and the City of Lawton.
What’s new this year? The festival will be held for the first time in Elmer Thomas Park located at 3rd and Ferris Avenue. We are so excited to launch the festival in this new location. Here are some of the added amenities for the festival in its new location - room for more attractions, parking adjacent to festival grounds, vendor parking onsite, additional electrical and water sources, tour bus parking, shuttle bus transportation, completely handicap accessible, restroom facilities, and more!
The committee invites everyone to be a participant in this citywide celebration. All multicultural organizations and clubs are invited to join us no matter where you live!!! All meetings are free and open to the public. The International Festival meets the first Tuesday each month at 6 pm in the Lawton Public Library at 110 SW 4th Street, on the corner of 4th Street and A Avenue, south of the Lawton Police Department and east of City Hall.
Do you have a product or service that has an international flavor and want to reach approximately 30,000 people in three days? Consider being a festival sponsor, a food vendor, a sales vendor, or having a display booth.
Also, being a volunteer at the festival is a great way to meet new people in the community, get work experience for your resume, gain visibility for your organization or business, family or group activity, and just have FUN!!
Here is a list of needed participants:
- All multicultural organizations and clubs – Opportunities for food booths, sales booths, display booths, and entertainers
- All Nonprofits and service organizations - Opportunities for food booths, sales booths, display booths, and entertainers
- Festival sponsors – Media, In-Kind Services, and Donations
- Volunteers (everyone) – Information Booths, Announcers, Stage crews, Stage Managers, and more!!
Call the Arts and Humanities Division at 580-581-3470 or 580-581-3471 to find out more or for any questions that you may have about the festival.
