LAWTON CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING
MARCH 1, 2010 –  9:00 A.M.
WAYNE GILLEY CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBER

                            Frank Jensen, City Attorney
                            Traci Hushbeck, City Clerk
                            Nathan Johnson, Municipal Court Judge
                            
Mayor Purcell called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Notice of meeting and agenda were posted on the City Hall notice board as required by law.   Invocation was given by Councilmember Bill Shoemate, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance

ABSENT:                James Hanna, Ward Two
Robert Shanklin, Ward Five

COMMENTS –  CURRENT ADMINISTRATION

Shoemate stated he is proud to serve with this board and looks forward to the upcoming year.

Mayor Purcell thanked his wife Jan for her support over the past fifteen years.  He thanked the citizens of Lawton who have allowed him to serve as Mayor for the past six years.  He also thanked the City staff and the City Council members.  He wished incoming Mayor Fitch the best of luck.

DECLARE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION TO CEASE –  MAYOR JOHN P. PURCELL, JR.

ADMINISTRATION OF CONSTITUTIONAL AND STATUTORY OATHS OF OFFICE –  MUNICIPAL COURT JUDGE NATHAN JOHNSON.

Bill Shoemate, Michael Tenis and Fred L. Fitch received the Oaths of Office from Judge Johnson.  

DECLARE NEW ADMINISTRATION TO BEGIN:  MAYOR FRED L. FITCH.

Mayor Fitch stated he is excited about working with the community and leading in a way that will be positive and progressive with a vision for the future of the city of Lawton.  He looks forward to working with the Council and city staff.  He thanked his mother for her encouragement.

COMMENTS –  NEW ADMINISTRATION

Haywood stated Mayor Fitch has his full support.

Shoemate stated that John Purcell has been a great Mayor and he is looking forward to working with Mayor Fitch.

Tenis stated he is looking forward to working with members of the City Council, the administration and citizens of Lawton.  He thanked his family for their support.

Drewry stated it is an exciting time in Lawton and she looks forward to the future.

Burk stated it is nice to see some new people and there are a lot of things coming up. Lawton is moving fast and we need good leadership.

Zarle stated he is looking forward to working with the new members.

Haywood stated Lawton will continue to grow with Mayor Fitch’ s leadership.

Wells stated he is thrilled to be working with the new members.

Mitchell stated he has worked very well with Mayor Purcell and he appreciates all of the support he has given to the community.  He is excited about the future for Lawton.  He is looking forward to working with everyone.

Mayor Fitch stated Mayor Purcell has done a tremendous job the past six years as Mayor and prior to that as Councilmember.   He has led the city in a positive and progressive way and he appreciates the leadership he has brought to this community.

There being no further business to consider, the meeting adjourned at 9:23 a.m. upon motion, second and roll call vote.
