LAWTON CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING

OCTOBER 14, 1998 - 9:00 A.M.

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Powell at 9:00 a.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber. Notice of meeting and agenda were posted on the City Hall bulletin board as required by State law.

ROLL CALL

PRESENT:    G. Wayne Smith, Ward One

        Richard Williams, Ward Two

        Jeff Sadler, Ward Three

        John Purcell, Ward Four

        *Robert Shanklin, Ward Five (entered at 9:05 a.m.)

        *Stanley Haywood, Ward Seven (entered at 9:20 a.m.)

        Randy Warren, Ward Eight

ABSENT:    Charles Beller, Ward Six

BUSINESS ITEM: 1. Pursuant to Section 307B1, Title 25, Oklahoma Statutes, consider convening in executive session to consider the applicants for the position of City Manager, and in open session, take appropriate action on such appointment, to include action on an employment agreement, and/or any other action on the appointment of a City Manager. Exhibits: None.

MOVED by Smith, SECOND by Warren, to convene in executive session as shown on the agenda. AYE: Williams, Sadler, Purcell, Warren, Smith. NAY: None. MOTION CARRIED.

The Mayor and Council convened in executive session at approximately 9:02 a.m. and reconvened in special, open session at approximately 10:30 a.m. with roll call reflecting all members present with the exception of Beller. Recess was taken at 10:30 a.m. and Council reconvened at approximately 11:00 a.m. with roll call reflecting all members present except Beller.

MOVED by Smith, SECOND by Warren, to convene in executive session as shown on the agenda. AYE: Purcell, Shanklin, Haywood, Warren, Smith, Williams, Sadler. NAY: None. MOTION CARRIED.

The Mayor and Council convened in executive session at approximately 11:00 a.m. and reconvened in special, open session at approximately 12:15 p.m. with roll call reflecting all members present except Beller. Recess was taken until 2:00 p.m.

The Mayor and Council reconvened in special, open session at approximately 2:00 p.m. with roll call reflecting all members present except Haywood and Beller. Haywood entered during executive session.

MOVED by Williams, SECOND by Warren, to convene in executive session as shown on the agenda. AYE: Smith, Williams, Sadler, Purcell, Shanklin, Warren. NAY: None. MOTION CARRIED.

The Mayor and Council convened in executive session at approximately 2:00 p.m. and reconvened in special, open session at approximately 4:00 p.m. with roll call reflecting all members present except Beller.

Mayor Powell reported that he and the Council had met in executive session and conducted interviews for City Manager candidates. Vincent noted the next meeting is set for Tuesday, October 20 at 9:00 a.m. for further interviews.

There was no further business and the meeting adjourned upon motion, second and roll call vote at approximately 4:03 p.m.
