Policy 1-6 USE OF LAKE ELLSWORTH HOUSE AS AN EMPLOYEE RECREATION FACILITY
DISTRIBUTION: All Departments
SUBJECT: Use of Lake Ellsworth House an an Employee Recreation Facility
PURPOSE: To establish policy for use of the Lake Ellsworth House located
near the Ellsworth
dam; to prescribe a standard reservation procedures for the Lake Ellsworth House.
BACKGROUND: The Lake Ellsworth House located near the Ellsworth dam has
been
developed into an Employee Recreational Facility for the use of active and retired city employees
for activities such as family picnics, reunions, divisional and departmental picnics, barbecues,
fish fries, birthday parties, etc., at no cost to employees.
The indoor facility consists of four rooms with a kitchen and restroom (electricity, heating/air
conditioning, water and an electric cooking stove, one sleeper couch and two recliners are
provided). Outside there are picnic tables and barbecue grills with a fenced yard for the
children's safety. There is an open space area for softball games, volleyball games and a
basketball court.
PROCEDURES: Reservations: In order to make the facility
available to as many active and
retired city employees as possible, reservations will be limited to one reservation per year per
employee for a maximum of 48 hours. Reservations are to be made by calling the Lake Division
headquarters at 529-2663 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning the
first working day of the calendar year for that calendar year only. Reservations will be on a
first
come first serve basis except for major holiays. (See **Major Holiday," below).
Retirees: Retirees may use the Ellsworth house for recreation.
Responsibilities: It will be the responsibility of the employee or retiree to call
the Lake Division
headquarters and request the key prior to the reservation date. It shall also be the responsibility
of the person reserving the facility to insure that the areas inside and outside are clean before
departing the premises. The Lakes Division will provide general maintenance of the facility.
Major Holidays: Reservations for the holidays of New Years, Easter, Memorial Day,
July 4th,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas will be decided by a public drawing to be held at 2:00
p.m on the first working day after March 1st from the submitted names of interested employees.
The drawing is to be conducted by the Lakes Division Superintendent, and will be held at the
Lake Headquarters. If there are no applicants for specific holidays received by the time of the
drawing, reservations for those holidays will be on a first come first serve basis.
